Dr. Henning Knerr's research focuses on micropollutants in wastewater, technologies for their elimination and their fate in the urban water cycle. He is Head of Wastewater Treatment and Water Protection at the WIR Institute and Managing Director of tectraa, Center for Innovative Wastewater Technologies. He also heads the Rhineland-Palatinate Wastewater Advisory Center, a cooperation between the RPTU and the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy and Mobility.

The civil engineer Henning Knerr is refining technologies for wastewater treatment plants that can remove environmentally hazardous synthetic substances – such as painkillers or X-ray contrast agents – from sewage.
